The efficiency of marketing for fruits and vegetables in India has been of significant concern in the recent years. Poor efficiency in the marketing channels and inadequate marketing infrastructure are believed to be the cause of high and fluctuating consumer prices. This paper analyses the consumer preference across selected marketing organizations for purchasing of fruits and vegetables.Karnataka enjoys a prominent position on the horticultural map of India. The following four marketing organizations were considered for the study, Co-operative marketing systems (HOPCOMS), retailers marketing systems (Subiksha and My Greens) and direct marketing systems (Rythu Bazaar). The study was conducted in Bangalore urban and rural districts of Karnataka with the sample size of 40. Consumer fruit and vegetable purchasing habits are affected by various demographic, socioeconomic and socio-culturalfactors along with the product, price, distribution channel, and advertisement. Diversified andalternative supply chains offer so many advantages to consumers in fruit and vegetable markets.Consumers prefer different outlets for purchase of fruits and vegetables because of their personal differences that are formed by the effects of demographic, socio-economic and socio-cultural factors. Keywords

A scale was developed to measure the attitude of the farmers towards greenhouse technology based on "Scale Product Method" which combines the Thurston's technique of Equal Appearing Interval Scale for selection of the items and Likert's techniques of summated rating for ascertaining the response on the scale. A tentative list of 33 statements was drafted keeping in view the applicability of statements suited to the area of study. The statements collected were edited in the light of the criteria suggested by Edward. These statements were framed in such a way that they expressed the positive or negative attitude of the farmers. The score of each individual item on the scale was calculated by summing up the weights of the individual items. Scale and Q value was calculated by using Thurstone and Chave inter-quartile range. Finally the scale consisted of 12 statements whose median (scale) values were greater than Q values. However, when a few statements had the same scale values, statements having lowest Q value were selected by arranging the scale value in an order. Reliability was tested with 20 respondents and its value was 0.77 and validity of the scale was examined. Keywords

The study to know constraints faced by the banana growers in adoption of risk management practices in drip irrigated banana cultivation was conducted on a random sample of 220 drip irrigated banana growers in Anand district of Gujarat state. The data were collected by personal contacts.Major economic problems faced by the banana growers in management of risk in drip irrigated banana cultivation were heavy cost of installation of drip irrigation system, high cost of fuel to use engines for irrigation and high cost of spare parts of drip irrigation system. As far as technological constraints faced by the banana growers were lack of sufficient electricity, problem of salty ground water and difficulty in interculturing operations. Non-availability of quality material of DIS with reasonable rates, lack of technical guidance from company agent in time and delay in sanction of loan and subsidy were the major administrative constraints faced by the banana growers. Whereas, in case of marketing related constraints faced by the banana growers were absences of support price during glut in the market, high cost of transportation and lack of timely information regarding demand and supply of the produce. Personal and socio-psychological constraints faced by the farmers in management of risk during drip irrigated banana cultivation were lack of knowledge about schedule of water soluble fertilizers application, lack of knowledge about use of fertilizers, liquid fertilizers, GR etc. and lack of knowledge about plant protection of banana crop. While, lack of knowledge about export procedure, lengthy procedures and formalities for export of produce and lack of knowledge about minimum residual level of chemical were the major export related constraints faced by the banana growers in drip irrigated banana cultivation. Keywords
